That's not to say never, but religion, tradition/culture are the main backbones. Ideally, this wouldn't be the case. the safest, smartest, and best way will conflict with religious morale, which is stubborn and irrational for the most part. stereotypical perception: reaching a middle ground is an abomination and you'll rot in hell for supporting such evils.
